English as a Second Language

Our program is designed in alignment with the Ontario Ministry of Education's ESL and ELD Curriculum expectations. It emphasizes developing proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, while also supporting critical and creative thinking skills needed for success in mainstream English courses. Students entering our program may arrive through a variety of pathways (feeder schools, Reception Centre, or International Education). Regardless of entry point, we recognize that each learner brings unique linguistic, cultural, and educational experiences.

The goal of our program is to prepare students for success in mainstream English programming (ENG and NBE courses), by building academic language, strengthening literacy skills, and supporting their transition into mainstream curriculum. We provide opportunities for students to develop their communication, comprehension, and analytic skills outlined in the Ontario Curriculum, while also helping students gain confidence as learners in an English classroom.
