Cooperative Education offers students practical, real-world learning opportunities by connecting in-class learning to community-based placements. Designed for Grade 11 and Grade 12 students, it allows them to earn two or four credits while gaining skills and knowledge aligned with their individual career and education pathways. Cooperative Education provides a reflective learning environment that emphasizes experiential learning, supports career/life planning, and fosters independent, lifelong learning. Students can choose placements in diverse fields such as healthcare, construction, education, hospitality, and many more.
Students enrolled in a Cooperative Education course that involves an apprenticeable trade (such as motive power, service, construction, or industrial trades) are eligible for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP). To participate in OYAP, students must:
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Have completed 16 credits towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) prior to starting the program
- Be enrolled as full-time students
