Food Drive 2026 - May 5th to 8th-Period 1
- SAC is organizing a school-wide food drive to rally the school in battling food insecurity. Each teacher will be provided with red bags to keep in their homeroom classes to collect non-perishable food items.
- At the end of the week, the filled bags will be picked up by the Red Bags charity, a local, family-run organization who collects non-perishable food items and toiletries, and donates them directly to the local food bank.
Important Reminder: Water Guns and School Safety
As we head into the warmer months, we want to ensure our school remains a safe and focused environment for all students.
Please be reminded that water guns and imitation firearms/weapons of any kind are not permitted on school property. This is in alignment with the YRDSB Safe and Caring Schools policy, which prioritizes a climate of safety, respect, and inclusion.
We ask for your support in ensuring these items stay at home. Bringing such items to school--even for play--can cause unnecessary disruptions or safety concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and welcoming for everyone.
Parking and Student Drop off and Pick up
The WEST parking lot at the front of the school is the only location to be used drop offs and pickups. Please do not use the EAST parking lot for student drop offs and pick ups
The fire routes/drop off area is a “no standing zone”. Please park in the parking lot if you arrive early. Vehicles should not be waiting in the drop off loop or in front of the school.
To avoid congestion and to increase the flow of traffic, please do not double park and keep all lanes open to allow cars to exit the parking lot. If you arrive early to pick up your student, please park in a spot in the parking lot to keep the lanes clear.
Please do not block the crosswalks as this is for pedestrian traffic and safe access to the parking lot.
Do not park in an accessible parking space if you or your passenger does not hold a valid permit.
Be vigilant of pedestrians who are using the sidewalks at the school entrances/exits.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and keeping our students safe.

A detailed exam schedule by course code and period will be shared in the coming weeks.
All secondary students must participate in the final summative assessment(s). These assessments make up the final evaluation representing 30 percent of the report card grade. Students are expected to complete all final summative assessments at the place, date and time indicated by the teacher and by the examination schedule provided by the school. Students cannot leave early for vacations, employment or other activities such as summer camps during the examination schedule.
In the case of extenuating circumstances (e.g. bereavement, court appearance or when you are unable to write an exam because of illness explicitly stated on a medical certificate), the principal will decide, in consultation with the subject teacher, the most appropriate method to determine your final standing in the course. This may include an opportunity to participate in the portion missed. Documentation supporting an absence must be presented in all cases.
In the case of an unexcused absence, a zero may be assigned for the missed portion of the final evaluation assessment and used in determining the final percentage mark on the report card.
For more information, see the Assessment, Evaluation and Communication of Student Learning and Achievement Policy and related procedures.
Any questions regarding MDHS final exams can be directed to Vice Principal, Marianne C Hamilton at marianne.c.hamilton@yrdsb.ca
